Every January lists are made, goals are set, plans in place...and by February most are broken. Maybe it isn't our ability to keep a commitment as much as how we measure success.
I found this quote extremely beneficial to me personally and our family. I believe a goal should be realistic, but an "all or nothing" approach to success can be crippling.
I wanted to save $50 this month and only saved $30. Did I fail or do I need to realign this goal? I made progress in the right direction and I learned about my ability to save! Maybe next month I need to try for $35 instead of giving up on the idea of saving altogether because I failed this month.
I want to eat healthier but ate one of the donuts offered at a meeting this morning. Did I fail? Or do I need to be intentional about my snacks for next week's meeting so I am less tempted? Do I throw out the whole day, month, plan? Or make wiser choices at lunch?
Finances, academics, health, character building, family experiences...we have made progress towards these goals, some more than others. But I see this year as a success because we moved forward, because I moved forward, and that is something to celebrate!
