Wow! So I was going to update my word for the year every month with how it was impacting my life and what I was learning. Well, here is the second update for the year!
Clarity has been a good word for this year...not just for me, but for our household. Who am I? Who are we? Where are we going? What are we accomplishing?
I like the thought process of eliminating options. There are a lot of wonderful things to do with my time, money and other resources. Is this option one that I personally need to be doing or be involved in? Now that requires some thought.
Aligning with values. I can stand for a lot of things. I can get behind a lot of projects. I can spend my time on a lot of causes. Selecting the ones that are true to me, to my heart, to my values, that I am passionate about I believe has required me (and our family) to clarify "us" and prioritizing our lives intentionally.
So what is an example of this in action? As we're watching our children grow up way too fast, we are prioritizing family time, making memories and shared experiences. We are taking family vacations. Time away from the office, volunteering, extended family, other obligations to experience life together. We wrote out a plan, made a budget, and took our vacation. We made sacrifices to make it work, because this was a higher priority.
Clarity has meant saying no to some really neat opportunities and disappointing some really important people, but we knew we needed to model for the children what it looks like to prioritize, make a plan and follow through and to say no!
I have a lot more to share on this and will...soon!
