Welcome to my blog! This is a place for me to write and share with family, friends and those who stumble upon our story. The most recent story begins in November 2011 with the "July 11th" post. The prequel to this story began back in June 2011 with the "The making of CCA" post.

Vaca Part 6: More Museums

Between the National Art Gallery and the American History Museum we found the Natural History Museum which was enjoyed so much, it received a second visit. Our first visit was spent in the skeleton exhibit exploring and comparing the bones of various animals. The children particularly enjoyed the house mouse, cheetah, giraffe and sea turtle.

Next we walked through the gem exhibit, which currently includes the Hope Diamond. It really was something magnificent to see. The older two requested a photo with the Opal display (their birth stone) and the younger ones wanted photos of the rocks that glow in the dark!

Our second visit was specifically to seek out the giant squid! We found him hiding in the aquatic display where we also found Dory. The squid has shrunk significantly, but was still quite impressive. I don't think I would want to encounter a living specimen...although that would be hard to do since they only live in the darkest, coldest (aka deepest) parts of the ocean and we all know I hate being cold!

Across Constitution Ave from the American History Museum is the National Archives. Photos are not allowed, so this photo of the front steps is all I have. The lines, even first thing on a weekday morning, were long which was hard on the kids, but seeing the documents that our nations founder's wrote were amazing! There is an exhibit of documents and recordings from various presidents that was also a great joy to experience.

Up Next:  A break from the National Mall
