During the summer I bake for two local farmer's markets. I enjoy interacting with the community and sharing my fresh bread and kolaches. It doesn't make a lot of money, but enough that I can purchase winter clothing for the kids and get a couple things off my always growing list of items to replace, repair, etc... This year I was able to get tickets to an Xfinity series race in Newton. The boys and I took a picnic to eat in the car and split popcorn and nachos because the prices were outrageous, but when the cars where racing around at 175+ mph just a few yards in front of us...priceless!
There was a special offer that night and a very kind lady gave us her passes to go down on the track for the opening pomp and circumstances. Introducing the racers (none you would recognize from Nascar on Sunday afternoons, but still really cool!), singing the national anthem and parachuting in with the flag. We had great seats and nice people sitting with us. We were glad to have ear protectors, but the rumbling of the engines was an experience like none other!
The boys loved the adventure and I loved sharing the experience with them. Living life in the moment with the people I love...doesn't get better than that!
