Welcome to my blog! This is a place for me to write and share with family, friends and those who stumble upon our story. The most recent story begins in November 2011 with the "July 11th" post. The prequel to this story began back in June 2011 with the "The making of CCA" post.

Weighted Blanket Revisisted

You may remember my experiment with weighted sewing last year, but if not, you can check it out here. The kids have all enjoyed their blankets in varying degrees and I decided I wanted to make one for myself. In watching my cousin's business grow and change, I looked into using glass beads instead of the plastic I used for the kids'.

Lora patiently answered my questions and then I saved up as glass is a bit more than plastic and while I had some plastic left over, I needed the full weight in glass. I settled on 15# and about 20" x 24" with a fleece top and minky(ish) bottom. Per Lora's suggestions, I lined it with a white cotton to help keep those little glass beads inside!

The process was the same, once I got the lining to lay with the fleece nicely. I marked and sewed my columns, then measured out my beads, pinned each row and sewed them shut. Row by row is got quite heavy.

Once filled, I closed the end (which is probably the most challenging for me) and gave it a test run. I love the colors and feel and the weight is really nice. I think I would have liked it a bit bigger (maybe 24" x 30") but this is sufficient.

I use it over my shoulders when I am stressed and holding tension in my neck. I use it over my legs when I am feeling anxious and restless. I have my husband lay it over my back when I am feeling overwhelmed and am having trouble sleeping. Basically, I could use it all the time, but probably only rely on it a few times a week. It has been well worth the time and money I invested.

As I shared eighteen months ago, if you really love sewing projects I encourage you to try one. If you only need a couple or don't find joy in sewing and adventurous projects...Lora does an absolutely gorgeous job and her prices are more than reasonable! You can find her facebook page here and her website here. If you make one yourself or have Lora make you one, please share a pic!
