Welcome to my blog! This is a place for me to write and share with family, friends and those who stumble upon our story. The most recent story begins in November 2011 with the "July 11th" post. The prequel to this story began back in June 2011 with the "The making of CCA" post.

Vaca Part 7: Around Town

We were in the area for eight days and took two days off to just hang with family, play at the local pool and catch up on rest and laundry. Below on the left is our youngest "chillaxing" by the pool. While the temps were actually pretty comfortable for most of our visit, the cool water was very enjoyable. The picture to the right is the cousins watching donuts being made at Krispy Kreme. We took all the kids out one evening to see the lights (another post) and timed a stop for donuts on the way...yes, there is an app for that!

While sharing about the cousins, I want to share just how amazing they were! They took their house from four to ten people (including two dogs and a hamster) for over a week, sharing toys and games and one even gave up his bedroom for us to use! They helped us navigate traffic and routes and times (which is much more significant than it sounds) and express lanes (which have their own times and rules). They opened up their kitchen to us for breakfast and dinner (which they made for us several nights) and for making our picnic lunches. All of this saves us tons of money and made this vacation affordable for our family. We truly could not have made this trip without their help!

We discussed going to the White House and decided to save that for next time, but did snap this photo from the Washington Monument. I was surprised how crowded the grounds around the House are...it always looks so open, like it is in the middle of nowhere in photos and movies.

This really struck me, being from Iowa and the land of corn. The agriculture building has a little garden and some corn on their front walk.

These are some beautiful buildings with lovely architecture. I don't know what they all are, but appreciated the beauty of the city.

Now for the lights....
