Welcome to my blog! This is a place for me to write and share with family, friends and those who stumble upon our story. The most recent story begins in November 2011 with the "July 11th" post. The prequel to this story began back in June 2011 with the "The making of CCA" post.

First Football Experience

To continue the theme of experiences today...

I have a son who LOVES football and has aspirations of playing professionally. Daddy and I have agreed to high school football, but when I heard there was a camp available for junior high we decided to give it a try. It opens with a father/son three hour camp and follows for four days with lessons, drills, training, exercises with the coaches and some players from the varsity team. They also have a three day camp for third-sixth graders which we decided to let our younger son try as well.

I was more than impressed with what I saw, though I was the only mom who came and stuck around, so I kept my distance as to not embarrass him. The coaches focused on doing your personal best, working to improve your best and that the only way to fail was to give up. Their motto: Those who stay will be champions.

The varsity players were also great! They encouraged, supported, gave tips and built up confidence. This is a small community and a small school (2A) and the comradery is palpable.

Daddy was also impressed with the father/son day. About 100 boys between the ages of 8-14 and their dads participated, including a tour of the high school training facility and some new tackle techniques.

Next year, he will be looking to join the freshman team, as he is even more stoked about playing! We are working on jumping jacks, push ups and burpees (mommy's least favorite) to build up his endurance and strength. I sure hope I'm ready for this!
