The main character, Riley, experiences some pretty normal childhood challenges but told through the voices of her thoughts and memories. We see her reality and the real reality and how the two collide. Sometimes we down play events as just "normal" and tell kids to get over them and move on (well, frankly we tell everyone to do that...) without helping them identify the feelings and put words to the experience. It may very well be normal and there may be nothing to do but move on, but the difference between emotionally healthy people and those that are not, is their ability to feel, identify and verbalize.
Okay...back to the party. We made her cake like the control board in the movie using candies in different colors to correspond with different emotions.
The movie identifies "core memories" and while I am not sure what Little Miss's core memories are, I chose a few significant moments in her life for her birthday banner...which is modeled after the long term memory storage in the movie.
She had many family and friends come help celebrate!
Here's to another year, my sweet girl! May it be one of more growing and learning and joy!
