We weighed our options and decided to take this opportunity to place the electric line underground. Ben, our builder Steve, and his son spent many hours digging the trench, laying and burying the cable. The kids had a blast playing in it!

The electric company replaced the line to the pole at the road and then installed two boxes. One is for regular electric (the oven, water heater, tv, computer, lights, etc.) and the second is for heat. We will get a special rate during the winter months for the heat panels and corn/pellet stove. The trench goes across the driveway, up the north side of the drive, in front of the new garage and into the crawl space at the north-east corner of the house.

While the trencher was on the property, Ben used it to dig the water trench. Ben hooked into the existing well and hydrant and extended them up to the new house site.

The push was to get all the ground work done before the ground freezes this fall/winter. By the end of November, Ben had all the digging, trenching and burying done for the electric and well. The septic is being done by someone else and will probably be done in early spring.
